Welcome to the Aspley Art Group Web site

In 1973 Vyvien Baillie put an ad in the local paper for people interested in art. At the inaugural meeting fifteen like-minded people decided they shared the common goal of furthering their interest and knowledge in art and thus the Aspley Art Group was formed. Membership grew to 60 and there are still many long-standing members active in the group, including Ken Wenzel, the group’s patron. Individual members have themselves had success at solo art exhibitions and won many prizes and awards in shows including the RNA, Goondiwindi, Redcliffe, Petrie, Pine Rivers, Sandgate, Beenleigh, Ipswich, Nambour, Caboolture and Samford.

In its forty-two years the group has held many successful showings at various places such as Hawkins Nursery, the Spring Hill Fair, McDonnell and East, the Richard Randall studio at Mt Coot-tha, Westfield Toombul,  Aspley Hypermarket and the sidewalk outside what was the Bank of New South Wales in Aspley.

To help further the members'  knowledge of art, the group has had many field days, taking in the inspirations to be found at the likes of Peel Island, Dayboro, Nudgee Beach, Wivenhoe Dam and more. Tutorials and seminars are a big part of the group’s learning focus, having Ken Wenzel, Eric, Colley and Todd Whisson, Irene Amos, Don Hamilton, Maria Field, Patricia Reust, Aileen Shaw, Jenny Kelly, Chris Clark, Sandra Pearce, Rex Backhaus-Smith and Charles Ludlow among the esteemed tutors sharing their skill and mastery with group participants.

We hope you enjoy our art as much as we enjoy showing it to you.
